English 10 A/B

This course is designed to give students substantial experiences in writing. The required course includes the following genres of literature: novel, poetry, drama and short story. The writing focus includes journaling, descriptive and literary analysis. The research process is reviewed to produce a research paper. Literature, reading, comprehension and research proficiencies will be assessed. The second semester puts more emphasis on research-based writing of expository essays and oral presentations. Literature-based speech activities are designed to improve students diction, poise and the coherent presentation of ideas. Reading will continue to focus on a variety of genres and assigned novels. Assignments become progressively more difficult for literary analysis and interpretation of fiction and nonfiction works. Proficiencies for literature, writing and oral presentation will be assessed.
