FHS In-person Learning Update

Dear Frederick High School Families,

We appreciate your support and communication and look forward to the start of in-person learning on Oct. 5th. Our district leadership continues to work closely with our county and state health agency partners as well as the Governor’s Office to navigate this continually evolving coronavirus pandemic and the impact on our educational system. While this is our plan at this time, the evolving nature of this health crisis will require us to remain flexible throughout the school year.

In the last Superintendent update, Dr. Haddad indicated that all students in grades K-12 will start school in a “hybrid model” on October 5th.  High Schools will continue to use their block schedule which will require a different hybrid schedule than elementary and middle school students. All 9th through 12th grade students in Group 1 will attend in-person school on Mondays and Tuesdays. Group 2 will attend in-person school on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Fridays will continue under the same format where all students will work remotely on Fridays. We will continue to have required Advisory classes on Fridays and the rest of the day will focus on check-ins, office hours, and academic support. On days when students are not physically in school, they will engage in a blend of synchronous (real-time) online learning with their classroom teacher, and/or independent work as assigned. This will enable them to continue progressing in their curriculum.

The St. Vrain Valley Schools’ website provides detailed information about the hybrid plan, including specifics about each school level (preschool, elementary, middle, high school), health and safety protocols, and more. I encourage you to look over all of the information on the website: Click here to access the hybrid plan and associated details.

In the hybrid model, students who started in LaunchED will remain in this online learning program until the end of the grading period. All other students will attend school in-person for part of each week and engage online for the other part of each week. Any student or parent of a student who does not want to attend school in-person will need to transition to St. Vrain’s LaunchED Virtual Academy. If you prefer this option, we ask that you register your student by Tuesday,  September 29 to ensure our district has the appropriate staff in place to support students. Students can enroll in LaunchED by clicking here or by calling 303-702-8800.

9th Grade and New Student Orientation Oct. 2nd

To support our 9th grade students and our students who are new to Frederick HS we are going to use October 2nd as an orientation day. 9th grade students will have a three and half hour orientation session where they will receive school tours, tips from students and teachers, class shirts, team building and lunch. To maintain social distancing, the students will be split by their cohort group. Group 1 will attend from 7:45am to 11:15am. Group 2 will attend from 11:15am to 2:45pm. Transportation will be provided and more details will be sent on Monday morning.

For new 10th, 11th, and 12 grade students, we will host 1 hour orientation sessions on Oct. 2nd. New 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students can sign up for an orientation by filling out this form

All other students will complete coursework asynchronously on October 2nd.

Safety

We will focus on the “Safe with 7” protocols that promote health and safety standards and you can review those protocols by visiting the Health and Safety Measures page in the reopening plan. It is important that we work together to practice all of the “Safe with 7” preventive measures. It is imperative that parents take the temperature of their student(s) at home prior to coming to school, and use this screening protocol to monitor possible COVID-19 symptoms:  At Home Health Screening Guide for COVID-19. It is not one single precaution, but all of the precautions combined, that create the safest possible environment for us to return to school. This includes everyone in the school being required to wear a mask during the day.

I have made a short video to highlight some of the safety procedures we have in place.

We are looking forward to transitioning to hybrid learning and connecting with our students in a safe environment.

Sincerely,

Brian Young

Principal – Frederick High School
