Auditoriums full of high school juniors and seniors don’t usually sit still as statues but as Darlene Emme spoke plainly Thursday morning about her son’s suicide, Frederick High’s class of 2015 and 2016 hardly moved, save for pulling their neighbors in for a sideways hug or quietly wiping away tears.
In the last two years, Frederick High has lost four students to suicide – Jordan McMullen in 2012, a recent graduate in early November 2014 and two current students died on Nov. 23 and 24, 2014.
Before the three suicides in November, McMullen’s girlfriend Lauren Adams and school staff were already working to get the Yellow Ribbon Program in the school to prevent other students from harming themselves.
