Welcome Back Information for the 2020-2021 School Year

Welcome Back Frederick Warriors!

I hope everyone is staying safe and is getting prepared to return to learning on Aug. 18th. As you know, we continue to follow the guidance of our state and local health officials on the best practices and safety guidelines. Per the email sent on Aug. 4th, all schools will be starting in an online environment on Aug. 18th.

Online Learning Plan:

It is important to note that our fully online-learning model will be much more robust than students and families experienced when schools unexpectedly were required to discontinue in-person learning this spring. Please click this link to learn more about the online-learning model for your student’s specific grade level, which will include synchronous (live, real-time) and asynchronous (flexible) instruction, as well as independent student assignments/work.

Students will log on at the beginning of each period to their teacher’s WebEx room for a period of synchronous learning where they will meet directly with their teacher.  After a period of time, teachers will direct students to complete work, practice, and collaborate in ways that may not require direct teacher instruction.   Each block will operate in this way, a time for synchronous learning followed by time for asynchronous learning.  Students will be able to find WebEx room links for each class on their teacher’s Schoology pages and in this document

Grading:

This year, we will return to our school-wide grading practice. Teachers will have two grading categories, Assessments and Learning Activities. Assessments will consist of tests, quizzes, and large projects which will make up 70% of the final grade. The Learning Activities category will content daily activities, practice, small quizzes, and other experiences that will make up 30% of their final grade. Please note this is different from the engagement grading that was done last spring during the school closure.

Attendance:

Teachers will be taking attendance everyday and during every class. On Mondays through Thursdays they will take attendance during the synchronous (live, real-time) learning at the beginning of each period. It is important students follow their schedule and login on time. On Fridays, attendance will be based on participation and submission of the required activities.

Technology and Internet Access:

St. Vrain Valley Schools has made a significant investment in technology resources to ensure a high-quality and equitable online learning environment for all students. An iPad will be available to all students in grades K-12 to support their learning at home and school.

Additionally, our district will continue to operate community WIFI hotspots and has developed additional resources for families who do not currently have internet access. Please click here to learn more
